What is Self-Pay?
At Unmind, we're committed to ensuring that everyone has access to the mental health care they need, when they need it. That's why we're thrilled to introduce Self-Pay.
Self-Pay empowers you to seamlessly transition into private care, staying connected with the same therapist, and continuing your journey without interruptions - even after reaching your employer funded session limit.
How to use Self-Pay
To continue treatment with your practitioner after using all of your employer funded sessions for the year, follow this process:
- Inform your practitioner of your wish to continue seeing them as a private client
- Your practitioner will set you up as a private client on their Unmind platform
Note, this must be done using a different email address to the one you use to log into the Unmind platform
- Your practitioner will arrange a session time and send you both a payment and joining link via email
- Make a card payment ahead of your session
Should your employer funded session balance refresh, you have flexibility to continue with private practice sessions, or opt for further Talk sessions within the Unmind app.
Additional information / FAQ
Can I continue to book Talk sessions from within the Unmind app?
The Self-Pay experience is currently conducted outside of the Unmind app, using a separate email address to the one you use to log in to Unmind.
Can I switch my private practitioner?
Self-Pay allows you to continue your care with an existing practitioner booked via Talk. Switching practitioners is not currently supported.
What is the cancellation policy for Self-Pay sessions?
Please discuss this with your practitioner, typically notification of cancellation must be given at least 24 hours before any planned session.
Possible alternatives to Self-Pay:
You may wish to consider other alternative routes for care if Self-Pay is not sustainable, such as possible programs through your health insurance, NHS (in UK), charitable organisations, etc. Discuss this with your practitioner to determine the most appropriate alternative for you.
For Unmind users in the USA you may wish to explore your practitioner's in-network eligibility with your employer sponsored insurance. You'll need to first obtain your practitioner's NPI (National Provider ID) from your practitioner, and then verify eligibility by going to your insurance provider's website or calling them directly. Both the website and contact number for your insurance provider is typically on the front or back of your insurance card.
