How often can I have sessions?

Depending on the agreement with your organisation, you will have a set number of sessions per year.

If you are unsure about the number of sessions you can book, you can view this on the “Book” page of your account.

One session per week is the usual maximum frequency. This helps you get regular support while making the best use of your session allowance. You may of course decide, with your practitioner to have sessions fortnightly or monthly instead.

Whatever is decided, it can be helpful to have some regularity. For example, if you meet weekly, try to stick to the same time and day each week.

What if I want to have more than one session a week?

If you are ever at immediate risk of harm to yourself or others, or are in crisis, please follow the urgent and emergency support guidance in your local area instead of relying on more frequent sessions.

In most cases, weekly sessions can give you consistent support while making the best use of your session allowance. Having more than one session per week is usually a short‑term option and may be beneficial in some situations.

If you feel you might benefit from more than one session a week:

  • Talk to your practitioner about how you are feeling and why you think more frequent sessions could help.
  • Your practitioner will consider your clinical needs, your goals, and your session allowance.
  • Together, you can decide whether it makes sense to temporarily increase how often you meet, or whether other types of support would be more appropriate.

If your practitioner feels that seeing you more than once a week is the right next step, they will follow Unmind’s internal process to request this and will explain what this means for your remaining sessions.

Please note that increasing how often you meet does not mean you will automatically receive additional sessions beyond your allowance. Any extra sessions need to be requested separately by your practitioner and are granted at the discretion of your employer.
